Brief History of XXIV

XXIV began life at The New X Inn in New Cross way back in March 2003. Irregular parties were thrown with our friends bands, and before long we found ourselves running events all over London.

The ‘I Swear I Was There’
nights began life at Turnmills in Farringdon on May 6th 2004 with sets from THE RAKES, CLOR, YEBOROBO and SMASH TV as well as DJ sets from ART BRUT, PAT LONG and JONNY DJ. After a run of 10 shows, which included a manic night with BABYSHAMBLES and TOWERS OF LONDON, ‘I Swear I Was There’ moved for a one off performance on Clapham Common, running a tent at ‘Get Loaded In The Park’ where the HAPPY MONDAYS made a triumphant return. Our stage was graced by THE OTHERS, THE CRIBS, ART BRUT, CROWD, LUDES and 10 other highly entertaining acts.

After a manic summer we put our heads down on October 6th with a set from CHIKINKI at Turnmills and bowed out from the club.

A month later XXIV’s first release was out featuring 12 of the best acts we had seen at various events over the previous 12 months. The compilation album has been selling well ever since and now only a few copies are left.

2005 brought with it new prospects and in January we moved to Greenwich to open The Crows' Nest Studios. A rehearsal and recording facility, for use both in house, and by outside acts.

‘I Swear I Was There’ also reared its ugly head again on March 4th at the legendary Venue in New Cross. With a great history of bands having played the blacked out building (including Nirvana, Oasis, The Clash, Pulp and Blur), it felt good to be part of breathing life back into the place. A monthly residency has now been launched on the first Friday of every month.

Alongside this releases are scheduled for a number of acts and large events will occur in the summer. Keep your eyes open!
